GET THE LOOK… THE QUIFF

Are you wearing a quiff in your hair? If not, it’s time to jump aboard of the trend – and we aren’t just talking to the men amongst you...

Both the Autumn/Winter 2011 and Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks were awash with female models wearing the trend, with the style spotted in short, mid-length, and long hair. From Dolce & Gabbana, to Rochas, to Felder Felder, to Proenza Schouler, it became one of the hottest trends of the season and shows no sign of slowing down.

Celebrities are getting in on the action too, with the quiff spotted recently on trend-setters including Scarlett Johansson, Carey Mulligan, Evan Rachel Wood, and Tilda Swinton at the recent Golden Globes.

So, how to you get this look at home? We’ve spoken to Bad Apple Hair’s Michaela Devlin and Pippa Crellin to find out…

1 – GET THE RIGHT HAIR CUT
“If you have short hair, this trend is all about the right haircut!” says Pippa. “Ask your hairdresser to shift weight from the sides and leave length through the middle.”

2 - PREP YOUR HAIR
Michaela warns: “This trend looks good on everyone, but it’s hard to achieve if your hair is very soft and silky, so you will need to prep your hair first.”

She continues: “Start by shampooing your hair with TIGI Your Highness Shampoo and Conditioner to create maximum volume. Before drying, apply mousse to the routes and mid-lengths of hair– I suggest TIGI Totally Baked, which creates great texture and allows you to mould the hair into any shape.”

3 – BLOW-DRYING SHORT HAIR
If you have short hair, Pippa Crellin recommends: “When blow-drying short hair, blast hair in the opposite direction so that the hair stands up in the middle. Blow-dry on a warm setting initially, before switching to a cold setting to keep the hair in place. Finish with a smoothing cream or serum, such as TIGI After Party, to keep the hair in place, and set with a spritz of strong hold hairspray for both shine and hold.”

4 – BLOW-DRYING LONG HAIR
Got a longer style? “To create a quiff, blow-dry long hair upside down first, before flicking back and directing hair straight back from your face,” recommends Pippa. “Back-combing is key for longer quiffs, so ask your stylist for tips so you can achieve the look without damaging your hair.”

5 – COLOUR
Colour looks great with a quiff, so think through your options and discuss with your stylist. Michaela Devlin says: “I have a full head of bleach, which works really well for a quiff, as it gives the hair a lot of texture and makes it easier to style.” Whilst Pippa adds: “Colours look fantastic and the quiff is a great focal point. If you have fine hair, lighter colours work better and can help to keep the quiff in place too!”

GET THE LOOK - KIM KARDASHIAN’S MIRROR-SHINE HAIR

Get the Look - Kim Kardashian

Did you wake up on 1st January and discover dull, lank, dry locks staring back at you from the mirror? You won’t be alone - the festive season has a nasty habit of wrecking our usually perfect hair, with over-styling, central heating, poor diet, and extreme weather all to blame.

If that sounds familiar, catching sight of Kim Kardashian’s perfectly groomed mane (complete with mirror shine) on the television or internet will be enough to turn you green with envy. She may have a dedicated team of hair stylists on call 24/7, but you have to hand it to the girl; her hair is in great condition.

Want to emulate the reality star? We’ve spoken to Bad Apple Hair’s Rob Turner to find out how to fight your way back to perfect hair health and emerge with locks that are in great condition, easy to style, and impressively glossy!

1 – TRIP TO THE SALON
The first step to getting your hair back to its best is to book a visit to Bad Apple Hair! Rob explains: “Everybody’s hair looks tired after Christmas, so book an appointment at the salon for a cut and blow-dry. I’d also recommend a salon treatment, which will infuse hair with nourishment and help to regain gloss and condition.”

2 – INVEST IN GOOD QUALITY HAIRCARE PRODUCTS
Once you’re back at home, you need to keep up the good work – so Rob recommends investing in a good set of haircare products for your bathroom shelf. He says: “The key products are a really good quality shampoo and conditioner – I recommend Kérastase Reflection Bain Mirror and Reflection Chroma Reflect, which will work together to regain incredible shine to your hair.”

3 – APPLY SERUM OR HAIR OIL
To achieve the same level of mirror shine that Kim’s hair boasts, Rob advises using serum or hair oil after washing and conditioning. “This will add a great shine, but will also seal and mask split ends,” explains Rob. “Try L’Oreal Professionnel Tecni Art Liss Control Plus Serum.”

4 – AVOID BLEACH
To keep hair looking its best, Rob recommends avoiding bleach, which will sap the moisture out of hair. He adds: “Other than that, there are really no limitations on colour, from natural glossing to permanent tints or even fashion colours. The key is the home care – and if you get that right, everyone’s hair can stay healthy and shiny.”

To book an appointment, call 0333 2000 633 or email your preferred salon and we will call you back at a convenient time.
