THIS MONTH… AUGUST

WE’RE WATCHING… VIDAL SASSOON THE MOVIE

We’ve all heard the name ‘Vidal Sassoon’ – but who exactly is he? This film tells the story of the man that started his days in an orphanage and went on revolutionise hairdressing, creating styles such as the ‘Bob’ and the ‘Five Point’. Vidal Sassoon ‘changed the world with a pair of scissors’ – and the film is both inspiring and fascinating to watch. If you didn’t catch it in the cinema, the DVD is released on 12th September.

Pre-order: Vidal Sassoon The Movie, £11.99 (www.amazon.co.uk)

WE’RE VISITING… SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN

The Bad Apple Hair team has just returned from this beautiful, eclectic city on the Northern coast of Spain – and we’re already wishing we were back! The city boasts beautiful beaches, a spectacular mountain backdrop, delicious cuisine, friendly locals, and a great nightlife in the old quarter. We loved the laid-back vibe, which is perfect for recharging batteries for a few days.

WE’RE WEARING… GLITTER

Thought glittery makeup was reserved for the festive season? Think again. Giles Deacon, Julien Macdonald, and Louis Vuitton sent models down the Spring/Summer 2011 catwalk with glitter sprinkled around their eyes, lips, and nails. There are no rules on colour – so you have a green light to get creative with ice-cream pastels, vivid brights, and shimmering metallics. A fun look, but best reserved for nights out!

Buy: Barry M Fine Glitter Dust, £4.59 each (Superdrug Nationwide)

WE’RE EATING… PURNELL’S

When we heard that Birmingham’s Purnell’s restaurant was voted in the top 50 UK restaurants outside of London, we couldn’t get there fast enough. The Michelin Starred restaurant, headed up by chef Glynn Purnell, might not be cheap (the a la carte menu starts at £38 for two courses) but it is worth every penny. Just the thought of the Devonshire crab starter, Cod with caramelized aubergine main, and warm dark chocolate mousse desert are making our mouth water!

WE’RE STAYING… SILKEN GRAN HOTEL DOMINE

On our trip to Spain, we had the pleasure of staying at the Silken Gran Hotel Domine, in Bilbao – and we highly recommend checking in. Situated opposite the Guggenheim Museum, the hotel has clearly been infected by its neighbour, with a striking modern interior and furniture that could (and probably has) won plenty of design awards. Add to that great views and a 5-star service - and it’s a winner!
