MENSWEAR TRENDS 2012

We discuss female hair trends on a regular basis here at BadAppleHair.com, but we’re well aware that half of our client base is male – and those of you that step through the doors of our salon are a fashion forward, stylish bunch! This month, therefore, we thought we’d hand this month’s blog over to you!
Inspired by Aid’s recent trip to Paris and Milan (click here to read his February blog), we’re taking the opportunity to list the top menswear hair trends for the season ahead.
Fancy a style change? Take your pick from the styles below, which appeared on the Autumn/Winter menswear catwalks of 2012-13.
1 - THE NATURAL QUIFF – as seen at Calvin Klein 2012-13
This look demands very short sides, a little weight at the back, and (most importantly) length towards the front so that you can side part the hair to create movement and style a slight quiff. It’s a natural look, so spend hours trying to perfect the quiff.
2 – SIMPLE LONG HAIR - as seen at Dior 2012-13
If you want to wear your hair long this season (and you’d be bang on trend if you did), make sure that you go for a simple, well-proportioned cut. Go for too many layers and the style may end up looking like a mullet, but go for too little and you won’t achieve the softness that the trend demands. The trick is to grow hair past the tricky stage where you can’t tie it back in a ponytail – and once you’ve done that, the look is very easy to maintain.
3 – TEXTURED 70’S – as seen at Trussardi 2012-13
Think lots of texture, lots of movement, and lots of length on top. This look is all about having mid-length hair that looks like you’ve effortlessly styled it. Keep the hair looking soft (so resist piling on the strong-hold or wet-look styling products) and add a side parting for natural movement.
4 – THE NEW FRINGE – as seen at Dries Van Noten 2012-13
Fancy a fringe? The new way to wear it is with the shortest possible hair, no longer than a couple of inches all over, with a fringe blunted off for a slightly moody feel. It’s a simple, very wearable look that doesn’t need much product at all – so it’s a great look to choose if you have a busy lifestyle and don’t have much time to style your hair in the morning.
5 –1950’S MEETS 2012 - as seen at Versace 2012-13
The most controlled trend of the bunch, which demands short sides and tapering above the ears to achieve more length on top. It’s a look inspired by the 1950’s, but with a very modern edge. You can afford to use a lot more product on this style, as it’s not so much about the natural finish.

NEW YEAR HAIR RESOLUTIONS

As we roll into 2012, Bad Apple Hair would like to take this opportunity to say ‘Happy New Year’ to all our clients! We’re really looking forward to seeing you in the salon over the coming months!
If plunging temperatures, over-styling, and cranked-up central heating have left your hair looking and feeling dull, lank, and flat this January, however, now is the perfect time to adopt a few New Year Hair Resolutions! We’ve asked five members of the Bad Apple Hair team for their suggestions – so read on and take note (we promise your hair will thank you for it!)
1 – VISIT THE SALON REGULARLY – As recommended by Aid, Group Creative Director
For sharp cuts, glossy colour, and great condition over the coming year, it really does pay to visit the salon regularly. Aid advises starting the year as you mean to go on: “I recommend a visit to Bad Apple Hair to revamp your locks in early January. We’ll offer you a full consultation (free of charge) - a 5-step process that covers every area of your hair, its haircare routine, and after-care tips. Whether you want to change your look completely or work with what you already have, it’s the perfect way to kick-start the year ahead.”
2 – ADD HAIR OIL TO YOUR HAIRCARE REGIME – As recommended by Harry, Creative Director
If there’s one product to invest in for 2012, it should be a bottle of hair oil. Harry explains: “It massively improves the condition of your hair for the long-term. Don’t be scared of using oil on your hair, as it’s suitable for every hair type – simply apply it to clean, wet hair as a smoothing lotion. It adds moisture, boosts shine, seals split ends, and cuts down drying time. You can even use it before bed as an intensive overnight treatment. I recommend Kerastase Elixir Oil.”
3 – BOOST COLOUR AND CONDITION – As recommended by Pippa, Senior Art Team
Tired, dull, unruly hair? Why not treat your locks to a colour glossing treatment? Pippa explains: “It’s a quick, pampering, and very efficient way to make hair look super shiny and healthy – and you can pick the colour of your choice from a vast selection. We can apply it and finish with a blow-dry in your lunch break, so it’s great for those with a busy lifestyle that still want glossy, fantastic colour.”
4 – TREAT HAIR TO REGULAR TREATMENTS – As recommended by Rob, Art Team
It makes perfect sense to treat your hair to salon treatments whenever you visit Bad Apple Hair (whether you have come to the salon for a cut, a colour, or both). Rob recommends: “Opt for an in-salon treatment each time you visit. At Bad Apple Hair, we use Kerastase Rituals – a range of instant treatments that cater to a wide range of haircare needs, including strength, shine, nourishment, and vitality. The treatments help to maintain health, rather than trying to repair it once the damage is done.”
5 – EXPERIMENT WITH COLOUR – As recommended by Adam, Colour Specialist
Stuck in a colour rut? Make 2012 the year that you start to experiment with colour – even if you are scared to do it on a full-term basis! Adam explains: “Wish you could get away with bright, bold colours for the year ahead, but have a job or boss that won’t allow it? I recommend opting for clip-in extensions, which can be professionally cut and coloured by the Bad Apple Hair team – allowing you to opt into a more adventurous look at the weekend! We can try a variety of different fashion techniques – from dip-dye to ultra-bright hues!”
